Well, the nice weather has finally arrived here in New England. Hopefully it's here to stay (knock on wood). It's great to finally get outside on the roads. However, I'm sticking with the road bike until the water and debris clear up a bit. This past weekend (Easter Weekend) was difficult. Everyone was heading out on Saturday to ride 4-5 hours....but my plan only called for 90 minutes....followed by an hour run. Although it was a bit more intense than a long ride, it's tough to pass up these nice weather opportunities to get the distance in. But, if you're going to have a plan....you need to stick to it (and trust it)....as difficult as that may be!
I'm re-reading Once A Runner by John L. Parker. If you're an endurance athlete and haven't read this book, go out and buy it. It was out of publication for some time (it originally came out in the 70's). Until it started getting re-published a year or two ago, the book could cost you around $300 on ebay for a paperback. The book is loosely based on the training of Frank Shorter and others back in the 70's...but with fictional characters. If this book doesn't get you out running, nothing will. Since my original edition is about to fall apart (it's an inherited edition that's been read probably 40-50 times....about 8 by me), Jenn got me the new edition for Easter. Now I can read it another 8 times without fear of ruining it!
